The XO might look like a toy but it’s a highly sophisticated laptop computer embodying cutting-edge IT features, let’s unveil the mystery of the XO……..

This little green machine is water and dust proof, with shock resistant features. XO is about the size of a textbook and lighter than a lunchbox. Thanks to its flexible design and “transformer” hinge, the laptop easily assumes any of several configurations: standard laptop use, e-book reading, and gaming.

 

XO is built-in with 1 gigabyte of memory, with three external USB ports and 1 external port of SD card, enabling further expansion of memory space.

XO is designed with low electricity consumption of a mere 1.3 watts. In addition, for use at home and where power is not available—the XO can be solar or foot powered.

The screen of the XO is the revolutionary liquid crystal on silicon (LCOS) which enables clear display even under direct sunlight

Built-in Software
XO made use of the Linux open-source platform as its operating system, with the easy-to-use SUGAR interface that enables easy learning even for children who have no prior exposure to computers and laptops.

XO is preloaded with a series of education software. Software development volunteers from OLPC provide constant updating of a supply of new education software for all XO users, which could be downloaded for free at the OLPC Wikipedia web site. Here are just a few of the fun learning software:-

[Chat]

XO is equipped with internet connection function and with the built-in mesh network. The XOs can “talk” to each other even in the absence of internet connection. “Chat” enables constant communication between the teachers and the children.
[Record]

The Record activity provides a simple way for children to take pictures, view slide shows, and record video and audio — and the content can be shared via the mesh network.
[Tam Tam Jam and tam Tam Mini]

Simple enough to be used by even the youngest ages, TamTam Mini is a fun, powerful way to perform music and play instruments.
